Absolute Total Care covers certain prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs when prescribed by an Absolute Total Care provider. The pharmacy program does not cover all drugs. Some require prior authorization. Some drugs have limitations on age, dosage or maximum quantities.
The CDL is the list of drugs covered by Absolute Total Care. Absolute Total Care works with providers and pharmacists to ensure that medications used to treat a variety of conditions and diseases are covered. The CDL applies to drugs you receive at retail pharmacies. The Absolute Total Care CDL is continually evaluated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee to promote the appropriate and cost-effective use of medications.
You can have your prescriptions filled at a network pharmacy. At the pharmacy, you will need to give the pharmacist your prescription and your Absolute Total Care ID card. The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) Preferred Drug List is the list of drugs the state wants your doctor to use. These drugs are also included in the Comprehensive Drug List.
What is a Specialty Medication?
A specialty medication is a prescription drug that needs special handling, administration, or monitoring. These are usually only ordered through a specialty pharmacy.

A specialty pharmacy provides services and medications needed to treat members with chronic, complex or rare conditions. The medication dispensed by specialty pharmacies often requires special storage and extra support. The services provided by specialty pharmacies are done by highly trained staff and can include clinical help such as training on how to take medication and manage your condition.
